Bettina Castano

Since her childhood, Bettina Castaño has been fascinated by flamenco. Andalusian gypsies once aroused her passion for this dance. On her way, she has met a large number of female and male masters of the arts of flamenco dance, flamenco singing and flamenco guitar. This way, she has been able to refine her art year after year.
Her encounters and intensive relationships with Manolo Marín, Mario Maya, the gypsy Sara, Carmen Clavel but also the Farruca family and Manuel Soler have helped her to develop her own style, sustained and supported by her immense musicality (she played the cello in her youth) and intuition.
During her dance performances, her music talent also finds expression in the use of percussion instruments such as frame drums and the cajon.

How to mic

Preferred mic setup: Sennheiser E901 positioned inside the cajon, at the bottom of the instrument, open up the channel, EQ can be used to make minor adjustments according to personal taste.
Miking method 2: EV RE20 / Sennheiser MD441 positioned at a short distance from the sound hole, adjust the EQ by turning off some of the lower midrange frequencies; this should also work for the Shure SM57.
Miking method 3: (for classical and crossover music) Condenser microphone Microtech Gefell (or Neumann KM184 ) positioned at a distance of about 50 cm / 20”  behind the instrument + overhead mics positioned above the complete percussion setup; both is merely to be employed to support the main miking when recording; phases are to be equalized when mixing at the studio. Clip mics attached to the sound hole at the backside have proved to be a “suboptimal” solution.
